Electric Social is getting ready to turn on its lights…
For the past few months, many of you have probably noticed, that something’s been occurring on Acre Lane. What used to be The Gold Coast (either totally empty or rammed) is having a mother of all facelifts and will, very soon, become Electric Social!
Whilst it may look on the dusty side now, it sounds like it’s going to be a neighbour we’ll want to get to know.
The people behind it have got big plans and want the laptop-coffee-crew to feel just as at home as cocktail sippers or Sunday lunchers, as well as those wanting a good night out in Brixton. So how are they going to do it? I asked (when I met up with the general manager a few days ago to find out more about it).
I’d never been to The Gold Coast before but you can tell from the outside just how massive the space is and it sounds as though there’s going to be a bit of everything spread around. There’ll be a bar and restaurant downstairs with sofas and little coves to relax in whilst the upstairs (and this is the bit when my ears pricked up) is where the music will be! Live music mid-week and then DJ’s at the weekend, there should be something for everyone. The main aim for Electric Social, I was told, is for it to be a place where people feel, well, sociable. It’s not trying to be pretentious or over-the-top (which wouldn’t wash in Brixton anyway), but just a place that’s great to hang out in.
So, it seems as though we’ve got lots to look forward to, so keep an eye out on their website for when they plan to flick the switch and start the music!
