About
Brixton beats…loads of places in my opinion! But one aspect I think makes the area shine in particular is its music. From street musicians to big acts at the Academy, music runs through Brixton’s veins. So this blog hopes to tap in to what’s out there. The aim is to turn up each week to a gig and then see what I think. Most of the time I won’t know the bands that are playing, but that’s half the fun.
Do comment if you agree or disagree with what I think…
Hope you enjoy.

brixton beats many things, but not Charlotte Livingstone! Excited at what’s to come… xxx
I agree. Brixton, this website and its creator are all top notch. Can’t wait to read more. xxx
Good work Curlotte,
Hope there’s plenty more to come!
Why haven’t I found this website before?! All my brixton music knowledge needs in one website! You should…I dunno…have your own radio show…or something?

Hi Charlotte
Just to let you know about our DJ night Funkalicious, has been at the White Horse in Brixton for 5 or 6 years – we play classic funk & soul alongside the latest releases from today’s burgeoning new funk scene, maybe you could come and check us out?
HI!
I will indeed check it out, I’ve been meaning to pay that night a visit. See you soon!
Hi Charlotte
You wrote a lovely post about The Gung Ho Down in May 2010 and finished with you hoped we would return to Brixton again..well I’ve sought you out and really hope you can make March 12th (Hootananny’s again) coming up and write about us again and tell people to come along to this one as I’m sure you’ll have just as much fun!
lots of love

Hi there,
I am part of the team of people running Brixton Oxjam this year.
I was wondering if you could help us out by blogging about the event? We will be taking over 4 music venues across Brixton with lots of fledgling and top name acts.
This year the event will be held on the 23rd of October and I have linked the Facebook page for you to have a nosy at….
Do let me know if you’d be interested in spreading the word…
Thanks ever so much!
Hi Anne Marie
I would love to help you out – a great event for a great cause!
Why don’t you direct message me on Twitter with your email address and we can take it from there…
🙂
Hello Charlotte!
I am loving the blog; it’s a great resource, so thanks!
Just wondering if you’d be interested in coming down to an event I’m running at the Dogstar, down Coldharbour Lane, on 14th October? I’m part of an organisation of young Londoners, many of whom live around Brixton, who are trying to build an ethical and sustainable music and arts scene in London (including creating affordable gigs, reimbursing our artists fairly, and a committed low-impact ethos), and we have close links with the Dogstar, which is a rather classic Brixton institution, as I’m sure you know!
It’s called Autumn Sessions, and this one’s going to have a bluesy-folky feel to the night – some really great bands, a live artist, plus some belly dancing – though you can find out more on our facebook event page if you’d like to: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=224999974222482
Let me know if you fancy it, it should be a good night!
Ruth 😀
